Why I Choose to Identify as a Man – BBNaija’s Phyna

Former Big Brother Naija reality show winner, Josephina Otabor, popularly known as Phyna, expressed her desire to identify as a man despite her physical gender being female.

She shared her thoughts during a recent episode of the Big Friday Show with Tacha on Cool FM Nigeria, shedding light on her perspective shaped by societal stereotypes against women.

Phyna acknowledged that while she is a woman biologically, her mental identification leans towards being a man.

She delved into the societal pressures and biases that often cast a shadow on women, prompting her to seek refuge in identifying with the male gender.

The insightful conversation unfolded against the backdrop of a recent social media altercation between Phyna and the renowned artist Davido.

During the interview, Phyna reflected on the incident involving Davido, where she chose not to introduce herself despite being criticized for it.

She explained, “I am a woman physically, but I can identify as a man because most times they just try to talk down on you because you are a woman.”

She went on to emphasize her strong stance, stating that regardless of someone’s status, if they treat her unfavorably, she would call them out.

The reality star’s decision to identify as a man is not merely personal but rooted in her larger call for societal change.

Phyna advocated for a fairer treatment of women, urging society to recognize and appreciate their worth.

She emphasized the need to challenge the existing norms that perpetuate gender biases, signaling her aspiration for a future where women are accorded the respect they rightfully deserve.

In the course of the interview, Phyna’s statements sparked contemplation on the broader issues of gender equality and the persistent challenges faced by women in various spheres.

Her experience with Davido became a focal point for discussions surrounding the expectations placed on women and the need for autonomy in personal interactions.

As Phyna candidly expressed her desire to be a man in her next life, her words resonate beyond her individual experience, inviting society to critically examine the structures that contribute to the unequal treatment of women.

In a world striving for inclusivity and diversity, Phyna’s journey towards self-identification serves as a poignant reminder of the ongoing struggle for gender equality and the importance of challenging societal norms that perpetuate discrimination.
