“Men Don’t Like ‘Overly Successful’ Women” – Ini Edo

Nollywood actress Ini Obong Edo has offered her perspective on the dynamics of relationships, asserting that some men perceive “overly successful” women as threats to their traditional role as heads of the household. According to Edo, men often gravitate towards women they can easily “control” and who exhibit submissive qualities, a sentiment she shared during the latest episode of Toke Makinwa’s podcast.

Edo delved into the challenges faced by strong and successful women, noting that their strength can be intimidating to some men.

She expressed, “Some men are threatened by women’s strength. Because we can come off as if we are doing too much. First of all, you’re a woman, you’re beautiful, you’re here and there…”

The accomplished actress went on to highlight the societal expectation for women to adhere to traditional roles, emphasizing that men often prefer women who conform to these expectations.

“Naturally, men want to see you [women] not so overly successful just so that they can pull you around, you can be the woman, cook and clean and do all the basic things that they’ve grown up to know is expected of women,” she stated.

Edo, sharing her personal viewpoint, declared a preference for being a “queen” rather than a dominating force in a relationship.

She expressed discomfort at the idea of “lording over” a man, emphasizing her desire to walk alongside her partner while receiving instructions and protection.

“No matter how successful I get, I don’t think I would like to have a man that I am lording over. Then what is the beauty of it? I mean, the beauty of it is me walking beside my man and he giving me instructions and protecting me,” she added.

In acknowledging the challenges successful women face in relationships, Edo remarked on the difficulty of finding men who understand that a woman’s success does not diminish their role as the head of the home.

This nuanced perspective sheds light on the complexities of modern relationships and societal expectations that continue to shape the dynamics between men and women.

As societal norms evolve, discussions sparked by influential figures like Ini Edo contribute to a broader conversation on the changing dynamics of relationships and the importance of mutual understanding and respect in fostering healthy partnerships.
