“I Might Go Into Politics” – BBNaija’s Seyi Awolowo Explores a Political Pathway

Former Big Brother Naija reality show housemate Seyi Awolowo has hinted at the possibility of delving into politics.

The 33-year-old reality personality, who hails from a distinguished lineage as the grandson of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, a prominent Nigerian nationalist and statesman, shared his contemplation on the prospect of entering the political arena.

Addressing societal expectations associated with being “Awolowo’s child,” Seyi discussed his family’s legacy during an appearance on Channels TV’s ‘The Morning Brief.’

As the 20th grandchild of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Seyi acknowledged the weight of his family’s history and the influence it could have on his future endeavors.

Expressing his reservations about entering politics, Seyi disclosed, “To be honest, I would have loved not to get into politics, but with the way it seems in the country, I might have to.”

The current state of affairs in Nigeria, coupled with his desire to contribute positively to the nation, appears to be a compelling factor that could lure Seyi into the realm of politics.

While emphasizing his initial preference for a career in entertainment, Seyi revealed the conflict arising from his sense of responsibility towards his family and the desire to witness his children grow in their homeland.

“I have a family that I’m looking forward to growing in this country, I’m not trying to ‘japa’ (leave). I want them to experience Nigeria the way I experienced Nigeria,” he stated.

Seyi’s vision for a united and diverse Nigeria, where individuals can freely explore the richness of its 36 states, resonates with his determination to embrace his Nigerian identity fully.

He expressed the desire for his family to interact with different tribes and experience the freedom of being Nigerian without limitations imposed by external conditions.

Reflecting on the expectations placed on him as an Awolowo descendant, Seyi acknowledged the traditional counsel he received from older generations.

“Since I was a child, people were always telling me that as an Awolowo child, this is how I was supposed to be, that I was always supposed to read books like my grandfather,” he shared, shedding light on the cultural and familial pressures that have shaped his journey.

As Seyi Awolowo contemplates a potential foray into politics, the public watches with keen interest, eager to see how the legacy of Chief Obafemi Awolowo might influence and guide his path in contributing to the socio-political landscape of Nigeria.

The journey from reality TV fame to a potential political career unveils the complexities of navigating identity, responsibility, and societal expectations in the pursuit of a meaningful impact.
