The Young Progressives Party (YPP) has successfully reclaimed the federal constituency seat for Orumba North and Orumba South in Anambra.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officially declared Chinwe Nnabuife, the YPP candidate, as the winner of the rerun election, marking a significant moment in the political landscape of the region.
The declaration, announced by INEC’s Returning Officer for Orumba North and Orumba South Federal Constituency, Prof. Gabriel Anene, came to light on a Saturday night around 10:15 pm.
This pronouncement followed the meticulous collation of results from the 16 polling units in Nanka ward 1, where Nnabuife emerged as the candidate with the highest number of votes.
Chinwe Nnabuife secured a total of 14,416 votes, positioning her as the frontrunner. The closest contender, Okwudili Ezenwankwo of the PDP, garnered 13,087 votes, while Kanayo Eze of the APGA trailed with 10,479 votes.
The victory not only affirmed Nnabuife’s political prowess but also showcased the enduring support she garnered from the electorate.
Expressing her gratitude, Nnabuife emphasized that this triumph was not just a personal victory but a call for more transformative legislative initiatives in the constituency.
She commended the transparency exhibited by INEC throughout the electoral process, instilling confidence in the democratic system.
Ensuring constituents of quality representation, Nnabuife urged her fellow candidates to prioritize the interests of the Orumba North/South constituency over personal agendas.
Her commitment to inclusive governance and legislative excellence resonated with her vision for a constituency that thrives under effective representation.
Mr. Calistus Nwosu, the YPP agent, hailed the rerun election’s outcome as a testament to the will of the people. He called upon Nnabuife to discharge her duties impartially, fostering an environment where the constituency’s needs were met without prejudice. The endorsement from the YPP agent underscored the collective desire for a representative who prioritizes the welfare of the people above all else.
The rerun election itself stemmed from a court’s decision mandating INEC to conduct a fresh vote to determine the true winner of the February 25, 2023, National Assembly election.
Okwudili Ezenwankwo’s legal challenge questioned the validity of INEC’s initial declaration of Nnabuife as the winner.
This rerun, therefore, served as a crucial mechanism to uphold the sanctity of the democratic process and ensure that the rightful representative emerged.
As Chinwe Nnabuife assumes her role as the elected representative, the onus now lies on her shoulders to translate promises into action and uphold the trust bestowed upon her by the electorate.
The rerun victory not only reshapes the political landscape of Anambra but also signals a new chapter for the Orumba North and Orumba South Federal Constituency, promising an era of responsive governance and progressive legislative initiatives.
