Emeka Chochoo, the former manager of actor John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, has revealed the reasons behind the police invitation of the actor’s adopted daughter, Jasmine, and two sons, Daniel and Val.
News emerged on Wednesday evening that Mr Ibu’s wife, Stella Maris, instigated their arrests after weeks of social media disputes regarding the signatory to the actor’s account.
Nollywood actress Doris Ogala shared the news on Instagram, alleging that Jasmine and the actor’s sons were detained at the Force Criminal Investigation Department Annex, Alagbon, Lagos.
The accusations suggested that Jasmine had transferred N300 million, meant for the ailing actor, from his account.
“Jasmine and Ibu’s sons were arrested at Alagbon Police Station. They are detained there.
Ibu’s wife alleged that Jasmine moved N300 million out of the account. Ibu’s wife allegedly wanted them to buy her a new house from the money contributed so far for Ibu’s treatments. That’s why she arrested Jasmine.
But investigation states that the money contributed isn’t even up to N300 million,” Ogala claimed.
However, Chochoo, in a telephone conversation with our correspondent on Thursday, clarified that all three individuals were invited by the police regarding Mr Ibu’s account.
He stressed that it shouldn’t be termed as an arrest and mentioned that Val, one of the sons, is not involved as he is unaware of the situation due to his recent return to the country.
“I have not been able to reach any of them,” Chochoo added.
When contacted for her response to the allegations, Stella Maris declined to comment, saying, “Please, I do not want to say anything about it, please,” before ending the call.
Efforts to reach Jasmine were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
John Okafor had recently sought public assistance for a medical emergency, gradually recovering from multiple surgeries.
The actor also underwent the amputation of one of his legs.
