Troops from the 6 Brigade stationed in Jalingo, Taraba State, engaged notorious bandits in a fierce confrontation within the Wukari Local Government Area.
Brigadier Kinsley Uwa, the Brigade Commander, unveiled details of the intense clash that unfolded in response to gunshots echoing near a disputed land along Tsukundi Road in Wukari.
The 93 Battalion, a constituent unit under the 6 Brigade, promptly responded to the distress call, revealing their commitment to maintaining peace and security in the region.
Brigadier Uwa narrated the unfolding events, stating, “Upon reaching the scene, the troops discovered two lifeless individuals, presumably victims of the assailants, while a person with a gunshot wound received immediate medical attention.”
Undeterred by the grim scene, the troops exhibited exceptional courage and professionalism as they meticulously combed nearby bushes, confronting the armed groups responsible for the violence.
Uwa added, “Confronting the armed groups, the soldiers effectively employed their superior firepower, compelling the militias to abandon their positions and flee.”
The successful operation yielded more than just a retreat from the armed groups; it resulted in the recovery of a significant cache of weapons.
Among the items seized were two AK-47 rifles accompanied by 36 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 10 empty cases of 7.62mm, one double barrel rifle, and one single barrel rifle with 14 live cartridges.
This substantial recovery serves as a testament to the troops’ dedication to curbing the proliferation of illicit arms and ensuring the safety of the community.
