There’s a Surplus of Money in Music – Shallipopi

Nigerian singer Crown Uzama, popularly known as Shallipopi, has revealed the remarkable profitability of the music industry, likening it to the returns in a ritual.

The ‘Elon Musk’ crooner shared insights into the financial transformation he has experienced due to the abundance of money in the music sector during an interview with the Zero Conditions podcast.

Addressing the question of balancing financial responsibilities, including supporting family members and personal savings, Shallipopi emphasized the incomprehensible wealth generated by music, noting that even if he stops singing, his existing music continues to generate income.

“Music money is like a ritual, and there’s too much money in music that you cannot understand at all. Even if you’re an artist that came out in one month, and your song is just big, no worry.

“Me now, I no dey balance anything; if my family requests, I dey give because I know that the music will not stop. Even if I stop singing, the music I’ve dropped will continue giving me money,” he affirmed.

The artist also shared an anecdote about making 50k from a show in Port Harcourt after spending four days squatting with someone, recalling the challenges he faced in the early stages of his career when people in Lagos turned him down.

“When I got to Lagos, I was looking for who to stay with; I wasn’t lost but couldn’t find anyone. Eventually, I found somebody and told them I would only stay for four days; I dey try corner them.

“After four days, I got a show in Port Harcourt for N50K. I never met any distribution company; I was doing everything with my phone,” he recounted.

Shallipopi gained recognition with the release of “Elon Musk” in 203 and subsequently signed with Dvpper Music Distribution, a Nigerian music record distribution founded by Damillola Akinwunmi.
