In a concerted effort to address the pervasive issue of drug abuse among the youth, Governor Uzodinma of Imo State issued a stern warning, urging young individuals to desist from the consumption of the locally-made concoction known as “mkpurummiri.”
This directive came to light during an enlightening session on drugs organized by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in collaboration with the Ikukuoma Sports Development Foundation, held at Ezinihitte Mbaise council area of Imo on a Sunday.
Represented by his Special Adviser on Narcotics and Illicit Drugs Monitoring, Chief Ezechukwu Obonna, Governor Uzodinma emphasized the detrimental impact of illicit drug use on the productivity and future of the youth.
He implored them to redirect their focus towards more constructive pursuits, urging the acquisition of digital skills and engagement in agricultural practices as viable alternatives for personal and communal development.

He revealed alarming statistics, stating that approximately 280 million people worldwide use drugs, with 15 million individuals grappling with drug abuse in Nigeria alone. Shehu emphasized the dire need for intervention, pointing out that six million Nigerians are in urgent need of assistance to overcome their drug-related challenges.
Chief Summers Nwokie, the founder of the Ikukuoma Sports Development Foundation, weighed in on the matter, emphasizing the program’s intent to dispel the allure of illicit drug use among the youth.
