Police Deploy Armed Operatives and Intensify Patrols in Kano Ahead of Planned Protests

In anticipation of the scheduled protests by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in response to a recent court of appeal verdict, the Kano State police command has deployed armed personnel to key locations.

The move is aimed at addressing any potential security threats and ensuring the maintenance of law and order in the state.

The NNPP supporters plan to protest the court’s verdict, which led to the removal of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf from office.

Conversely, APC supporters are organizing a counterprotest, as the judgment favored their candidate in the upcoming March 18 governorship election.

Hussaini Gumel, the Commissioner of Police in Kano, stated that the command has initiated aggressive patrols within and outside the metropolis to guarantee public safety.

He emphasized that no permission has been granted for protests by either of the two political parties in the Kano metropolis.

“As far as this command is concerned, we have not permitted the two major political parties to engage in any form of protest in our areas of supervision,” Commissioner Gumel asserted.

He urged residents to carry on with their lawful activities without fear of disturbance.

Gumel highlighted the collaborative efforts of the police and sister security agencies in ensuring the security of lives and property in the state.

He further called upon leaders of both parties to adhere to the peace accords they had previously signed.

In a final appeal, the Kano Police Commissioner urged parents to closely monitor the movements of their wards, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a peaceful and secure environment.
