Nigerian Student Sentenced to 40 Months in UK for Terrorism Threat

A 26-year-old Nigerian Master’s student Somtochukwu Okwuoha, enrolled at Dundee University in Scotland, has been handed a 40-month prison sentence for making terrorism threats against staff and students of the institution.

According to BBC reports on Friday, Okwuoha, an international energy studies student, will face deportation following his conviction by the Perth Sheriff Court.

Witnesses during the trial detailed how Okwuoha, who arrived in the United Kingdom in 2021, had propagated alarming threats against the university community.

Claiming to have a military background, he asserted his capability to manufacture bombs and release a deadly virus on the city.

Furthermore, he shockingly declared his affiliation with the terror group ISIS, stating his intent to bomb the university and launch a chemical attack on the city.

Sheriff William Wood, presiding over the case, emphasized the severity of Okwuoha’s actions, declaring, “Your presence in the United Kingdom is not conducive to the public good, and I make a recommendation for your deportation in due course.”

The charges against Okwuoha included threatening a fellow female student who rejected his advances, leading to his suspension from the university course.

Undeterred, he redirected his threats towards staff, involving claims of mass murder, terrorism, bomb planting, and the use of biological weapons.

Okwuoha, currently incarcerated in Perth, was found guilty of threatening to murder university staff and committing terrorist crimes spanning from December 2021 to June 2022. The charges encompassed threats of mass murder, the use of biological weapons, disclosing staff details to international authorities, and asserting the placement of planted bombs.

Chilling witness testimonies were presented during the trial, including emails received by staff members with explicit terrorist threats.

One witness recounted Okwuoha’s ominous message: “Expect a massive bomb explosion at the University of Dundee. I have contacted ISIS terrorists to plant bombs on campus. I can assure you staff and students will die in great numbers. 9/11 will be a joke compared to what will happen. Blood will spill, and flesh will be scattered.”

Accommodation officer Shane Taylor disclosed in court that Okwuoha accused him of racism and expressed intentions to exact revenge by wiping out Scottish people.

The gravity of these threats paints a disturbing picture of Okwuoha’s intentions and actions, leaving the university community and authorities grappling with the aftermath of a terror-driven ordeal.
