MTN Sets the Record Straight: No Debt Cancellation for Subscribers

MTN Nigeria, the telecommunications service provider, has clarified that subscribers who experienced canceled debts due to a system glitch will be required to settle their outstanding balances once the issue is rectified.

Following a widespread celebration on social media by MTN subscribers claiming debt cancellation in the early hours of Saturday, MTN responded to the situation, attributing the debt cancellation to a ‘system glitch.’

In a post on X, MTN assured customers that the glitch caused inaccuracies in balance inquiries and that balances would be rectified to reflect accurate figures once the problem is resolved.

The statement from MTN read: “MTN Nigeria Communications Plc can confirm a system glitch impacting balance enquiries.

As a result, some customers may receive error messages showing that their balances have been cleared.

This is not the case, and all balances will reflect accurate figures once the problem is resolved. Our engineers are currently working to ensure this.

Please accept our apology.”
