In a decisive blow against terrorism, the military air component of Operation Whirl Punch has successfully executed airstrikes, eliminating 30 terrorists on motorcycles in the Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna state.
This strategic operation was launched following actionable intelligence revealing the movement of the terrorist syndicate within the area.
Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, the Director of Public Relations and Information, released a statement on Monday detailing the success of the mission.
The eradicated terrorists were identified as the culprits behind the recent ambush on troops at Kwanan Mutuwa and numerous attacks and abductions of innocent civilians in the Birnin Gwari LGA.
The statement emphasized the military’s relentless commitment to ridding the Northwest and Northcentral regions of Nigeria of the pervasive menace of terrorism and kidnapping.
The precision airstrikes were executed along the Kwiga-Kampamin Doka axis in Birnin Gwari LGA, targeting the identified terrorist syndicate.
“The intelligence also revealed that the same syndicate was responsible for the ambush on troops at Kwanan Mutuwa on January 27, 2024, as well as several attacks and abduction of innocent civilians in Birnin Gwari,” stated Air Vice Marshal Gabkwet.
Upon arrival at the suspected location, the military troops observed a convoy of terrorists moving on 15 motorcycles, each carrying at least two armed militants.
In response to this imminent threat, a precision strike was swiftly carried out, resulting in the neutralization of the armed terrorists.
“The aftermath of the air strike revealed that several of the terrorists were eliminated as a result of the strike,” confirmed Gabkwet, underscoring the effectiveness and accuracy of the military operation.
The success of this operation is a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to combat insurgency and secure the Northwest and NorthCentral regions.
The targeted elimination of the terrorist syndicate responsible for the recent attacks in Birnin Gwari showcases the military’s capability to respond swiftly and decisively to emerging threats.
The Birnin Gwari area, plagued by insecurity, has been a hotspot for terrorist activities, leading to tragic consequences such as deaths and abductions of residents.
The recent military airstrikes send a strong message that the Nigerian Armed Forces are resolute in their determination to restore peace and security to the affected regions, contributing to the broader national efforts to eliminate the scourge of terrorism.
As the military continues its operations, the hope is that such decisive actions will lead to a safer and more secure environment for the residents of Kaduna and beyond.
