Lucas Vazquez keen to sign new Real Madrid contract

Lucas Vazquez, a stalwart at Real Madrid, has conveyed his eagerness to commit to a new contract with the club, revealing his deep-rooted connection and affection for the Bernabeu.

Despite spending the 2014-15 season on loan at Espanyol, Vazquez has remained a constant figure at Real Madrid, contributing 33 goals and 59 assists in 327 appearances across various competitions, primarily operating from the right-back position or as a winger.

As the seasoned player reaches the age of 32, with his current contract set to conclude on the eve of his 33rd birthday, uncertainties loom over a potential renewal.

Carlo Ancelotti continues to utilize the Spain international regularly, although only four of his 16 appearances in the ongoing 2023-24 season have been from the starting lineup.

Despite facing stiff competition and enduring a few spells on the sidelines due to Eder Militao’s injury, Vazquez maintains his commitment to Real Madrid.

Speaking to the media ahead of Real’s Champions League fixture against Union Berlin, Vazquez addressed questions about his future.

Responding to inquiries about signing a new contract, he affirmed, “Time goes by quickly! Yes, of course. Real Madrid is the dream I’ve had since I was little; it’s my home, and I’m very happy here, so, of course.”

Reflecting on his evolving role as a more peripheral figure in the team, Vazquez acknowledged the challenges.

“There are good moments and bad moments. When you aren’t getting minutes or you don’t feel important, you feel bad. You have to keep your head cool and train to the max, knowing that you’re capable and believing in yourself. I don’t lack that. I’m at Real Madrid, where I’ve always wanted to be, so I will give my all for myself and for my club.”

With Real Madrid already securing a spot in the Champions League last 16 as group winners, Vazquez is anticipated to maintain his role in the team for the upcoming clash against Union Berlin in Germany.

This follows his 83-minute performance over the weekend in the 1-1 draw against Real Betis, a result that leaves Real Madrid trailing surprise La Liga leaders Girona by two points in the table.

As Vazquez navigates the evolving dynamics of his role within the team, his dedication to Real Madrid remains unwavering, marking a pivotal chapter in his enduring connection with the club.
