In a gesture of honor and recognition, Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, has pledged to name the horse racing ground after the Emir of Gwandu, Maj.-Gen. Iliyasu Bashar (Rtd).
This announcement was made during the final match of the horse racing competition held in Birnin Kebbi, the state capital, on a significant Saturday.
Governor Idris, speaking at the event, expressed his commitment to elevating the horse racing competition to an annual international spectacle.
His vision extends beyond mere entertainment, aiming to garner global attention and contribute to the promotion of good governance.
“I am going to make this game an international one to elevate its status and ensure that it gains more recognition.
I really appreciate the involvement of Emirs in this competition, and their blessings count a lot,” he affirmed.
The President of the International Horse Racing Competition and the Estu Nupe, Maj.-Gen. Yahaya Abubakar, extended gratitude to Governor Idris and the organizers for successfully bringing the event to fruition. The competition witnessed intense rivalry, showcasing the prowess of the participating horses and their riders.
The highlight of the competition was the recognition of the Governor’s Horse, securing the coveted first position and earning not only a cash reward but also a brand-new car.
The second position was awarded a cash prize along with a motorcycle, while the third position received a well-deserved cash reward.
In a separate interview with the media, the Chairman and Secretary of the Local Organizing Committee for Horse Racing in honor of the Emir of Gwandu, Alhaji Mustapha Usman Ka’oje Sarkin, expressed gratitude to Royal Fathers, Etsu Nupe, and all other distinguished guests for their unwavering support.
He took the opportunity to extend heartfelt prayers for the long life, good health, and prosperity of His Royal Highness, the Emir of Gwandu.
As Kebbi State looks forward to hosting future editions of this prestigious horse racing competition, the naming of the ground after the revered Emir stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of culture and tradition in the region.
