FG’s Ambitious Plan: 50 Million People to be Lifted Out of Poverty in 42 Months, Says Minister

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu, has disclosed the Federal Government’s ambitious strategy to uplift 50 million individuals from poverty within the next 42 months.

Speaking with conviction, Edu emphasized that President Bola Tinubu is actively steering various poverty alleviation programs aimed at assisting the vulnerable populations across the country.

Dr. Betta Edu shared insights into this comprehensive plan during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today, articulating the deliberate efforts being orchestrated to effect positive change in the socio-economic landscape of Nigeria.

She underscored the collaborative nature of the initiative, involving not only her ministry but also a coordinated effort with other key ministries. The Ministry of Trade and Industries, responsible for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), is set to play a crucial role in this collective endeavor.

“We are drawing out a strategy to be able to get 50 million persons out of poverty within 42 months. Now, that is not just going to be only the job of my ministry to do.

There is going to be an inter-sectorial collaboration with other ministries, for instance, the Ministry of Trade and Industries,” explained Edu.

She highlighted the pivotal role of SMEs, emphasizing that the President’s commitment is reflected in the provision of loans for individuals engaged in small businesses across the nation.

Underscoring President Bola Tinubu’s dedication to alleviating the plight of the poor and vulnerable in society, Dr. Betta Edu asserted that various strategies are being explored.

International partnerships and engagement with institutions like the World Bank are integral to the comprehensive approach being adopted.

The overarching goal is clear – to pull 50 million people out of poverty, marking a significant leap forward for the nation.

In addition to outlining the forward-looking plan, Minister Edu brought attention to the resumption of payments for beneficiaries of the N-Power program.

The disbursement of arrears to beneficiaries commenced on Wednesday and is slated to continue until every individual entitled to payment receives their due.

“Presently, a payment for N-Power is ongoing; we were in the office yesterday up until the early hours of this morning, just to ensure that young people get monies that they have been owed from the last government,” Edu stated.

She assured beneficiaries nationwide that the process would persist until every individual who has served is duly compensated.

This multifaceted initiative not only aims to alleviate poverty but is also designed to restructure existing systems, reducing unemployment and generating job opportunities for the Nigerian populace.

Dr. Betta Edu’s revelations offer a glimpse into the government’s concerted efforts to effect transformative change, marking a significant stride toward a more prosperous and equitable future for the nation.
