Ondo State elders, convened at the behest of the national leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, have voiced concern over the prolonged political discord in the state involving Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, and the State House of Assembly.
The elders, gathered for a meeting in Akure on Tuesday, appealed to President Bola Tinubu and the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Umar Ganduje, to intervene and resolve the crisis plaguing the state’s leadership.
Expressing their dismay at the lack of communication between the governor and his deputy, the elders highlighted the adverse impact on the deputy governor’s ability to fulfill constitutional duties for effective governance.
In their resolutions, the elder statesmen emphasized their stance against the impeachment of the governor and the deputy.
They urged all unelected individuals to allow the three arms of government in Ondo State to collaboratively find a lasting solution to the existing crisis, emphasizing the need to uphold the rule of law as stipulated in Nigeria’s constitution.
The elders further called on the state and national leadership of the APC to provide guidance to those in government and ensure discipline within the party ranks.
Additionally, they called for prayers for Governor Akeredolu’s improved health, acknowledging the challenges posed by his absence on sustained good governance in the state.
In a passionate plea, the elders urged President Bola Tinubu to intervene and bring an end to the constitutional crisis in Ondo State to prevent a potential breakdown of law and order.
Meanwhile, the Ondo State Police Command issued a statement disclosing intelligence reports about political thugs planning to instigate unrest across the state.
The command warned those involved to desist from such activities, emphasizing that law-abiding citizens would be safeguarded while those inciting violence would face the consequences of the law.
