President Bola Tinubu has offered Nigerians a reassuring promise that his administration is committed to tackling the pressing issue of soaring inflation and remedying the country’s economic woes.
Delivering this pledge during an address to the APC Presidential Campaign Council at the 2024 Ramadan Iftar held at the State House on Wednesday, Tinubu emphasized his determination to confront the challenge head-on, despite acknowledging the absence of any quick-fix solutions.
Ever since Tinubu assumed office in May 2023, marked by the removal of fuel subsidies and the unification of the exchange rate, Nigeria has witnessed a steady rise in inflation, exacerbating economic hardships nationwide.
The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) latest report reveals a concerning escalation, with the country’s inflation soaring to 31.70 percent in February 2024, compared to 29.90 percent in the previous month.
However, President Tinubu remains resolute in his commitment to reverse this troubling trend.
Addressing the assembled audience, Tinubu reflected on the challenging task at hand, emphasizing the need for concerted effort and perseverance. “It is the arduous duty that you pledged to the people of Nigeria during my campaign. You promised them tangible results, didn’t you? Well, I must deliver on that promise – there’s no magic wand,” he stated.
“Campaigning was about instilling hope, and now, I must lean on that hope to drive us forward for the collective well-being of every citizen. While we acknowledge the presence of economic challenges, rest assured, the trajectory is promising,” Tinubu assured.
Acknowledging concerns over inflation, Tinubu reaffirmed his government’s proactive measures.
“Yes, inflation poses a challenge, but fret not, we are committed to curbing it. We’re revamping our revenue streams, witnessing improvements, and reclaiming our sovereignty and respect on the global stage,” he declared.
Asserting the necessity for self-reliance, Tinubu underscored the importance of collective effort and resourcefulness.
“We must navigate through our challenges independently. It’s your diligence, innovation, investment, and unwavering dedication that will pave the path to our collective prosperity,” he emphasized.
In essence, President Tinubu’s message resonated with a sense of optimism tempered with realism, assuring Nigerians of his administration’s steadfast commitment to navigating through the economic turbulence and steering the country towards a brighter future.
