Tensions have arisen within the ranks of Mr. Peter Obi’s political camp as allegations emerge of a significant sum, amounting to N60 million, intended for his presidential campaign being misappropriated by an unnamed individual associated with the team.
The accusations came to light when @MissPearls, a staunch supporter of Obi, took to her social media platform on Sunday to expose the alleged misdeed.
In a series of posts, she disclosed that a generous donation of N60 million meant for Obi’s campaign had been intercepted and pocketed by an unscrupulous intermediary.
Expressing dismay over the incident, @MissPearls emphasized the need for accountability within the campaign team, particularly concerning financial transactions.
She revealed that Obi himself had been made aware of the situation and was insistent on the immediate reimbursement of the donor by the middleman responsible.
“The corruption we were vehemently speaking against was happening right under our noses and we didn’t even know,” @MissPearls lamented, highlighting the irony of the situation.
Furthermore, she underscored Obi’s uncompromising stance against corruption, asserting that those involved would not escape consequences.
She hinted at impending revelations in the days ahead, suggesting that the fallout from this incident would be significant.
“I trust Obi. You can’t be corrupt around him and go scot-free. The coming days will be very interesting!” she remarked, alluding to the potential repercussions for the individuals implicated.
In light of these allegations, Some Media Houses have reached out to Yunusa Tanko, one of the spokespersons for Obi’s presidential campaign, for comment.
While Tanko did not directly confirm the incident, he emphasized Obi’s commitment to transparency and accountability in handling campaign funds.
Tanko reiterated Obi’s longstanding directive for all funds received by individuals or groups in support of his candidacy to be properly accounted for.
He emphasized the importance of donors demanding transparency regarding the utilization of their contributions, ensuring accountability at every stage.
“In this case, whoever that donated money to that particular person should ask, ‘what was the money meant for, and how was the money used?’ with proof,” Tanko stated, underscoring the necessity of transparency in financial transactions.
Tanko’s remarks reflect Obi’s principled approach to governance, emphasizing integrity and accountability as core values.
As the situation unfolds, the spotlight remains on the need for transparency and ethical conduct within political campaigns, underscoring the importance of upholding the public trust in political leadership.
