Arsenal and Liverpool Scout Jeremie Frimpong Amidst Bundesliga Clash

Scouts from Arsenal and Liverpool were reportedly present at Bayer Leverkusen’s Bundesliga encounter with Borussia Dortmund on Sunday to observe the performance of Jeremie Frimpong.

The 22-year-old defender has been showcasing formidable form for Leverkusen in the 2023-24 campaign, featuring in 18 matches across various competitions and contributing six goals along with seven assists.

Frimpong played the entire 90 minutes in Leverkusen’s recent game against Dortmund, ending in a 1-1 draw, preserving Xabi Alonso’s team’s unbeaten record this season.

Previously linked with Manchester United, Frimpong’s potential transfer plans were disrupted by Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s strong performance and Diogo Dalot’s contract extension.

The Netherlands international’s outstanding form has reignited speculation about his future. According to reports, both Arsenal and Liverpool sent scouts to assess Frimpong’s performance during the Leverkusen match, indicating their interest in securing the defender’s signature.

Frimpong’s current contract reportedly includes a £35 million release clause, valid until next summer.

Despite having Ben White in the right-back position, Arsenal is reportedly eager to bolster their options in that area. Meanwhile, Liverpool has occasionally shifted Trent Alexander-Arnold into a midfield role this season, potentially creating a need for a new right-sided defender if this adjustment becomes permanent.

Frimpong, a product of Manchester City’s youth system, joined Celtic in 2019 after failing to secure a spot in City’s first team.

He impressed during his stint with Celtic, scoring three goals and providing eight assists in 51 appearances before making a move to Leverkusen in January 2021.

With 17 goals and 27 assists in 113 appearances for the German club, Frimpong has been a key contributor to Leverkusen’s success.

Despite his contract running until June 2028, it is speculated that Frimpong will seek a move next summer due to the existence of a release clause in his current deal.

As two Premier League giants keep a close eye on Frimpong, the upcoming transfer window could bring significant developments in the talented defender’s career.
