Two police operatives, Inspector Abubakar Fakku and Sergeant Elisha John, met a horrifying end at the hands of an enraged mob in Edo State.
The incident, which occurred in Ikpeshi, Akoko-Edo Local Government Area, has sent shockwaves through the community.
The chain of events leading to this gruesome act began when the two officers were reportedly escorting a former member of the Edo State House of Assembly, Emmanuel Agbaje.
It was during this escort that a vehicle in their convoy tragically collided with a commercial motorcycle rider, resulting in the rider’s untimely demise.
At the time of this report, the identity of the deceased rider remained undisclosed.
Subsequently, the police operatives found themselves in the custody of the Edo State Security Volunteer Network, an unexpected turn that quickly spiraled out of control.
Angered by the perceived injustice, a group of enraged youths stormed the facility, overwhelming security measures and launching a merciless assault on the two officers.
Reports indicate that the mob’s fury did not stop there.
They brazenly attacked the vigilante facility, wreaking havoc on its furnishings and issuing threats against any attempts to intervene on behalf of the beleaguered officers.
In the midst of the chaos, however, a glimmer of hope emerged as members of the vigilante group managed to thwart the mob’s intentions, rescuing two other police operatives from a fate similar to their fallen comrades.
These rescued officers are currently receiving medical attention at Ifejola Hospital Igarra.
Furthermore, amidst the turmoil, the vigilant actions of the rescue team led to the recovery of several rifles belonging to the police operatives, averting a potential escalation of violence.
