In the midst of the controversy surrounding the appointment and confirmation of Etekamba Umoren as the Resident Electoral Commissioner from Akwa Ibom State, the All Progressives Party (APC) stakeholders from the state have clarified that Umoren was not a member of their party.
The Senate, following a request from President Bola Tinubu, confirmed Umoren’s appointment as Resident Electoral Commissioner from Akwa Ibom State last Wednesday, alongside nine others. However, Umoren’s confirmation faced opposition from various interest groups, particularly the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who alleged that he was a card-carrying member of the APC.
Last Thursday, the PDP expressed its disapproval of Umoren’s appointment, with its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, stating that the appointee was a prominent APC leader who had actively participated in APC campaigns and represented the party’s interests in past elections.
