AFCON: ‘You Go Play Abi You No Go Play,’ Nigerians Ask Nwabali

Stanley Nwabali’s stellar performances at the ongoing African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast have endeared him to the hearts of Nigerians. 

Therefore, when he was forced to leave the field due to injury during the round of 16 clash with Cameroon, anxiety spread across Nigeria. The concern was palpable, given Nwabali’s pivotal role in the team.

The reassuring news of his recent training session with the Super Eagles teammates has brought relief to fans across the nation. 

Now, with the AFCON quarterfinals against the boisterous Angola side looming on Friday, Nigerians are eager to know if Nwabali will be in action.

In an effort to address the mounting curiosity, Nwabali took to X (Twitter) to express gratitude to everyone who had shown concern during this challenging time. 

He acknowledged the unpredictable nature of life, stating, “Thanks to everyone that checked up and showed disquiet in one way or the other at this strenuous time, I appreciate. We’re all human and anything is prone to happen. Onto the next one! (sic).”

Despite this heartfelt post, Nigerians, known for their directness, are clamoring for a clear answer to the pivotal question: “You go play against Angola abi you no go play against Angola?” In other words, will he be taking to the field against Angola on Friday? 

The cryptic nature of Nwabali’s statement has left fans seeking a straightforward response.

DaddyMO, expressing the collective sentiment, asked the crucial question in Pidgin English: “You go play against Angola abi you no go play against Angola? This one whey you dey quote parables which way oooo?” (Are you playing against Angola or not? What’s up with this parable you’re quoting?)

In response, Olanrewaju Kehinde Adeleke, who apparently attended the team’s training session in Abidjan, assured fans by saying, “Calm down e go play.

 I watched dere training session today in Abidjan.” (Calm down, he will play. I watched their training session today in Abidjan).

Acknowledging Adeleke’s update, Adesewa expressed gratitude, saying, “God bless you for sharing this news.”

As the anticipation builds for the crucial AFCON quarter final clash, Nigerians remain hopeful that Nwabali, with his confidence, swag, and spirited play, will be on the pitch against Angola. 

The collective support and fervent inquiries reflect the passionate connection between Nigerian football enthusiasts and the players representing the nation on the continental stage.
