During the 2023 Annual Public Lecture/AGM/Awards & Election of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations in Kaduna State, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris-Malagi, conveyed his optimistic outlook regarding the transformative potential of the 2024 budget.
The budget, amounting to N27.5 trillion, was recently presented by President Bola Tinubu to the National Assembly.
The Minister, addressing attendees at the event, underscored the significance of this fiscal proposal, suggesting that its passage would herald a pivotal era in the country’s development.
President Tinubu, in delivering his first full-year budget since assuming office, aims to realize his Renewed Hope Agenda through aligning fiscal strategies with broader national development objectives.
Idris-Malagi emphasized the budget’s dual focus on development priorities and fiscal responsibility, stressing the administration’s commitment to prudent financial management as the bedrock for long-term economic stability.
He remarked, “As the 2024 Appropriation Bill moves through the legislative process, we are very optimistic that its passage will mark the beginning of a transformative era, bringing tangible improvements to the lives of Nigerians.”
The Minister highlighted President Tinubu’s recent initiatives, including assent to a significant supplementary budget, the enactment of landmark Bills and Executive Orders, and the inauguration of special presidential initiatives addressing fiscal policy reform, Compressed Natural Gas, Food Security, and MSME support.
These efforts, according to Idris-Malagi, aim to deliver relief to the Nigerian people and lay the groundwork for lasting prosperity.
Underpinning these endeavors is the President’s commitment to inclusivity, one of the eight pillars of his agenda.
Idris-Malagi cited the prominence given to youth and women in appointments and representation, emphasizing that more can still be done to foster inclusive policies and programs across all segments of the population.
The Minister assured that President Tinubu would persist in pushing the envelope in this regard, demonstrating a continued commitment to the well-being of all Nigerians.
He urged the nation to expect sustained efforts in creating an enabling environment for citizens to thrive, cutting across various demographic categories.
In his closing statements, Idris-Malagi expressed his readiness to support the development of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, reiterating the commitment of his Ministry and the entire administration to transparent public communication.
He pledged ongoing collaboration with the NIPR, recognizing it as a valued partner in the mission to empower citizens with accurate, timely, and useful information.
Additionally, the Minister addressed a pertinent issue related to the need for a permanent secretariat for the Kaduna Chapter of the NIPR.
He affirmed his commitment to support the efforts to realize this project in a timely fashion, emphasizing the importance of fostering robust communication for the benefit of the public.
