Senator Chukwuka Utazi, who previously represented Enugu-North Senatorial District of Enugu State, has announced his resignation from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
The senator, who served the district from 2015 to 2023, cited the fading of the party’s founding ideals as the primary reason for his departure.
Utazi submitted his resignation letter to Chief Robert Ezeagu, the Chairman of PDP in Nkpologu Ward of Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State, on Sunday.
In his letter, he expressed his reservations about the party, stating, “It is with reservation that I resign my membership of the People’s Democratic Party which I had the privilege of being a foundation member of at its inception in 1998.”
He continued, “The reason being that those ideals that attracted me to the party have since receded into oblivion, leaving me with no option but to leave and find another party that will afford me ample opportunity to operate maximally and contribute to national development.”
Although the senator did not disclose his next move in the political arena, his departure from the PDP marks a significant development in Enugu State politics.
It remains to be seen which political party he will align himself with in the future, as the political landscape in the state continues to evolve
