Kano Correctional Centre Clarifies Disappearance of Tiktoker Murja from Prison

The Kano State Prison Command swiftly addresses circulating rumors regarding the supposed escape of renowned Tiktoker Murja Ibrahim Kunya from one of their facilities.

Contrary to speculation, the authority asserts that Murja Ibrahim Kunya’s absence from the correctional facility stemmed from a lawful directive issued by a State High Court.

Murja Ibrahim Kunya, along with five others, found herself in the spotlight after being declared wanted by the Kano State Hisbah Board and the State Shari’a Police.

Following her arrest in the Hotoro Tinshama area of the city, late last week, she faced allegations from neighbors concerning her purported immoral activities.

These accusations ranged from public disturbances to attempts at enticing young girls into prostitution, alongside the sharing of explicit content and the use of vulgar language on social media platforms.

After her apprehension, Kunya stood trial at a Sharia Court in the Gama ward of the city.

Presided over by Judge Malam Nura Yusuf Ahmed, she faced charges and was subsequently remanded in prison custody until the scheduled hearing for her bail application on Tuesday, 20th February 2024.

Despite denying the charges brought forth by the prosecution led by Aliyu Abideen, Kunya found herself behind bars awaiting due legal process.

However, the narrative took an unexpected turn on Sunday, just two days before the slated court appearance, when reports surfaced alleging her mysterious disappearance from prison custody. This development triggered widespread speculation regarding a potential escape.

Nevertheless, Musbahu Kofar Nasarawa, spokesperson for the Kano Correctional Centre, moved swiftly to dispel the notion of an escape.

According to Nasarawa, Murja Kunya did not abscond from custody but was instead released in accordance with the court’s instructions.

Clarifying further, Nasarawa emphasized that the TikToker’s release occurred on Thursday, meaning she spent only two days in confinement rather than the speculated seven.

“It was a court that brought her to us for remand, and it was the same court that ordered us to release her,” Nasarawa clarified, underscoring the procedural nature of Kunya’s brief stay in the correctional facility.

In light of these revelations, the circumstances surrounding Murja Ibrahim Kunya’s brief detention and subsequent release underscore the intricacies of the legal system and the importance of adherence to due process.

While initial speculation may have fueled public discourse, the authoritative explanation serves to bring clarity to a situation marked by conjecture and uncertainty.
