In a surprising turn of events, a stolen item belonging to Nigerian singer Adewale Mayowa Emmanuel, popularly known as Mayorkun, has been returned following the artist’s pledge to never set foot in Calabar, the capital of Cross River State, again.
Mayorkun, without divulging the specific details of the stolen items, confirmed the incident via his social media accounts, posting updates on both Twitter and Instagram stories on a Tuesday.
“Calabar, You’ll probably never ever see me again, good luck to the other artists coming for your festivals tho,” Mayorkun expressed in his social media statement.
The renowned singer, who recently performed at an event in Calabar, reportedly fell victim to theft during his time in the city. The incident prompted a response from fellow artist Iyanya, who hails from Calabar and expressed his dismay at the robbery.
Iyanya, in a plea for the return of Mayorkun’s stolen items, took to social media, stating, “My Calabar people, this is very bad for the peaceful people I know us to be.
The government has brought my colleagues to entertain you; all you owe them is protection and great hospitality. If you know anyone who stole from my brother, please return it, and I will personally compensate you. Drop it at The Grand Hotel. I will personally compensate you, please.”
In a subsequent update, Iyanya expressed gratitude for the return of one of Mayorkun’s stolen jewellery items. He mentioned that the item was brought back to The Grand Hotel Calabar. However, he noted that there was still one more missing—a valuable and customized necklace.
“This one is still not found; please check around. I’m sure we have it somewhere, and will please return the second one to our brother before he leaves Calabar.
Just get to Grand Hotel Calabar and drop it there; there’s a reward waiting for you on arrival,” Iyanya added.
The incident highlights the need for heightened security measures at events and reinforces the importance of local communities supporting and protecting artists who contribute to the cultural vibrancy of their cities.
As Mayorkun’s stolen items find their way back, the episode serves as a reminder of the challenges artists face, even in the pursuit of bringing joy and entertainment to their fans.
