Supreme Court: You’ll be hero in Southeast if you release Nnamdi Kanu – COSEYL to Tinubu

The Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL) has issued a compelling appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging him to release the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

In a statement released on Saturday by COSEYL’s President General, Goodluck Ibem, the group conveyed that Tinubu could achieve maximum acceptance in the Southeastern region by facilitating Kanu’s release.

Expressing confidence in the positive impact of Kanu’s release, Ibem asserted that the Southeast would experience a significant reduction in the ongoing security crisis.

The group emphasized Tinubu’s historical role as an advocate for the rule of law and respect for court orders, citing his involvement in NADECO and the fight against military junta and dictatorship.

COSEYL contends that Tinubu’s unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu would exemplify his commitment to the principles he advocated for during the military era. Ibem stated, “The unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu will prove that President Tinubu says and stands by what he professes and fought for in the past during the military era.

We will celebrate President Tinubu for upholding the rule of law and respecting the Court judgement releasing Nnamdi Kanu from DSS custody.”

The timing of COSEYL’s call is noteworthy, as it precedes the Supreme Court’s impending ruling on Kanu’s case, scheduled for Friday, December 15.

The statement indicates the significance attached to this legal decision and the potential impact it could have on the prevailing circumstances surrounding Kanu’s detention.

The call from COSEYL underscores the complex interplay of legal, political, and regional dynamics in Nigeria.

It signals the belief among certain groups that Kanu’s release could contribute to the resolution of security challenges in the Southeast and foster goodwill towards President Tinubu in the region.

The Southeast has been grappling with security issues, and the release of Nnamdi Kanu is posited by COSEYL as a potential catalyst for ameliorating the situation.

The group’s appeal to Tinubu reflects a broader sentiment within certain circles that Kanu’s continued detention may exacerbate tensions in the region.

As the Supreme Court prepares to render its verdict on Kanu’s case, the political ramifications of the decision are palpable.

COSEYL’s call serves as a reminder of the intricate balancing act faced by political figures and the weight of their decisions on regional sentiments.

President Tinubu’s response to this appeal and the Supreme Court’s ruling will undoubtedly shape perceptions and influence the political landscape, especially in the context of the Southeast’s dynamics.

The coming days will reveal the unfolding narrative as stakeholders await the Supreme Court’s pronouncement and gauge the subsequent developments in this high-stakes situation.
